James  Cooras considers himself an artist. He draws his inspirations from music and from symbols. The origins of man are a topic that is foremost in his mind and his Greek upbringing has clearly given him an incredible historical perspective from which to interpret his art forms into symbolic jewellery. Cooras is an artist that uses precious metals and precious stones coupled with ceramics and natural materials to create his pieces. Every design is personal and has much thought put in to it.

Cooras’s has a dozen folders each with meticulous hand sketches drawn to perfection, when talking about how he goes about formulating unique designs for his clients. One can see the progression from how he takes letters, symbols and fuses them into very personal designs. To the unknowing eye one sees a piece of exquisite symbolic jewellery but to the informed one learns about the various design elements and associated meanings that form the final product.

Cooras has a team of artisans who actually take his designs and turn them into reality. Each of the guys are highly skilled in their own right. Of course Cooras oversees this operation to make sure that the final result is true to his designs. Each piece of symbolic jewellery has a story and a history. Cooras is justifiably proud that he holds copyright on many of his designs. In particular, the Floating Channel and the Clawless are marvels of innovation. Both designs allow light to do magical things to diamonds and are true innovative approaches to the setting of precious stones.
